ORANGE CITY-The Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley wrestling team has had an up-and-down season this year and the Class 2A Section 14 wrestling tournament Saturday exposed some of those uneven performances.

Western Christian routs Estherville-LC 70-38 on the road
ESTHERVILLE-Class 2A top-ranked Western Christian held an 11-7 lead after the first quarter, but the Wolfpack stormed Estherville-Lincoln Central the rest of the game in a 70-38 Lakes Conference boys’ basketball victory Tuesday, Jan. 31.

HULL-Class 1A 10th-ranked Boyden-Hull had an inconsistent second quarter against Central Lyon, but the Comets rallied back to win the game in overtime 81-76 for Siouxland Conference boys’ basketball Tuesday, Jan. 31.

HULL-It was a tight contest between two evenly-matched teams in Siouxland Conference girls’ basketball action Tuesday, Jan. 31, but missed shots and a late 3-pointer by Central Lyon gave the Lions the edge they needed to hand Boyden-Hull a 47-44 defeat.

Local football athletes choose Northwestern and Dordt
It was national signing day for all high school football athletes and six players from either Western Christian or Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley put pen to paper last Wednesday and chose Northwestern College. One will be playing for Dordt College.

The Blessed and Unbreakable Tour is coming to Hull Saturday, Feb. 18. The tour will feature the award-winning contemporary Christian vocal music group, “Selah,” and one of the stars of “Duck Dynasty,” Missy Robertson, the wife of Jase Robertson.

Centennial Park funds grow substantially
Three substantial donations have been given to assist with the Boyden Centennial Park Revitalization Project. Citizens State Bank, Demco Charitable Foundation and Boyden Community Foundation assisted with the growth by giving $30,000 each toward the project.

SIOUX CENTER-The Siouxland Conference wrestling meet Friday gave Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley grapplers one last chance to fine-tune their skills before the Class 2A Section 14 tournament at MOC-Floyd Valley Saturday, Feb. 4.
Second-half adjustments on D hand the Comets a victory
Boyden-Hull held a 20-19 lead after the first eight minutes of action and held a 39-33 lead at halftime. Coach Bill Francis said his team’s inability to close out on the Hawks’ shooters allowed Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn to stay in the game.

HULL-Boyden-Hull may have had a 14-10 lead after the first quarter of play, but the lack of playing time cost the Comets in the second quarter and eventually the game in a 66-61 non-conference girls’ basketball defeat to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Thursday.
