Lorraine Groeneweg, 82, of Orange City, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Funeral service was Tuesday, June 1, at Calvary Christian Reformed Church, Orange City, with interment in Hope Cemetery, Hull, Iowa.
Lorraine Ruth Dekkers was born Dec. 21, 1938, near Hawarden, Iowa, daughter of Adrian and Marie (Vander Lugt) Dekkers,. She attended a country school through fourth grade, then attended Hawarden Public School and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1957.
On Oct. 30, 1958, she William Groeneweg. They briefly made their home in Hawarden before moving to Hull. She worked part time as a certified nurse’s aide at Rock Valley and Hull nursing homes. In 1981, they opened the first Pizza Ranch in Hull, which has since expanded to over 200 stores. The couple moved to Orange City in 2003. Her husband passed away Feb. 25, 2018.
Survivors include a daughter, Cindy (Jerry) Vande Pol of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sons, Adrie (Marla) Groeneweg and Scott (Kim) Groeneweg, all of Orange City; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Obbink; a brother, Daryl (Carolyn) Dekkers; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Groeneweg and Carol (Dallas) Apol; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, parents-in-law, Walt and Jesamine Groeneweg, and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers-in-law, Richard Obbink, Wally Groeneweg, Ronald Groeneweg and Verlyn Groeneweg.
