Three Nighthawks earn all-district honors

Three Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley baseball players have been picked as Northwest District all-district players as selected by the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association this past week.

Named to the first team was catcher Brett Moser. Moser was a .456 hitter this past season with 28 RBIs, one home run, nine doubles and 17 runs scored.

Earning second-team honors were Zach Noble and Shane Solberg. Noble was the ace of the pitching staff for the Nighthawks with 66 innings pitched, a 0.64 ERA, 71 strikeouts, only 23 walks and an opponents’ batting average against of .123. Noble was also a .352 hitter with three home runs, two triples, four doubles, 21 runs and 19 RBIs. Solberg hit .495 from the leadoff spot for Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley with three triples, seven doubles, 31 runs and 24 RBIs.

    BOYDEN-The second-ranked Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley softball team found itself in an early 2-0 hole, but the Nighthawks never said die and used a six-run sixth inning rally to punch their third-straight state tournament ticket in a 6-2 win over 11th-ranked Spirit Lake in Class 3A Region 2 tournament final action Monday, July 10.
