Rosella “Sally” Wassink, 94, of Sioux Center, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Royale Meadows Care Center, Sioux Center.
Funeral service was Saturday, Sep. 15, at Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center, with interment Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center.
Rosella Blankespoor was born Aug. 26, 1924, on a farm near Rock Valley, Iowa, to Gysbert and Hilda (Driesen) Blankespoor. At the age of 3, the family moved to a farm between Hull and Boyden. She received her eighth grade education at a country school.
On Nov. 28, 1944, she married Arend Wassink. The couple made their home on a farm near Sioux Center. After nearly 70 years on the farm, she moved in November 2012 to Royale Meadows Care Center, Sioux Center. Her husband joined her there in January 2016. He passed away Nov. 6, 2016.
Survivors include one son, Cornie (Deb) Wassink of Alton, Iowa; four daughters, Janice (Roger) Alons of Troy, Illinois, Hilaine (Roger) Kempema of Rock Valley, Gloria (Ken) Van Wyhe of Stanton, Iowa, and Arlis Folkerts of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Henrietta Byker of Hudsonville, Michigan, and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; son-in-law, Gerald Folkerts; two infant grandsons and two brothers, Henry Blankespoor and the Rev. John Blankespoor.
