James “Jim” Intveld, 90, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, June 15, 2018, at Sanford Hospital, Rock Rapids.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at First Reformed Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 19, from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home, Rock Rapids.
James Martin Intveld was born April 8, 1928, in Hull, Iowa, the son of Marinus and Jennie Louise (Vermeer) Intveld. He grew up near Hull and attended country school through eighth grade. He started farming with his father northwest of Hull.
On Aug. 30, 1950, he married Gertrude Buyert. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1951 and served two years. The couple spent the next 43 years as livestock and grain farmers southeast of Rock Rapids. In 1995, they moved into Rock Rapids. He worked for the Lyon County Fairgrounds 14 years, and Lewis Family Drug 13 years, retiring at age of 87. In May 2016, the couple moved to Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City, Iowa, and in October 2016, they moved to Good Samaritan Society in George, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife; six children, Dwayne (Martha) Intveld of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, Bonnie (Everett) Van Leeuwen of Orange City, Iowa, Nancy (Marvin) Vos of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Marcia Intveld of Elk Point, South Dakota, Donna (Eric) Schut of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Gary Intveld of Rock Rapids; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Kuiken of Luverne, Minnesota; brother, Leroy (Wanda) Intveld of Hull; sister, Thelma (Arnold) Menning of Mesa, Arizona; brother-in-law, Albert Boeve of Luverne; brother-in-law, John and Peggy Buyert of Plymouth, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Joan Buyert of Hull, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings and in-laws, Elizabeth and Case Boeve, Cynthia Boeve, Donald Kuiken, Lubertha Buyert, Lillian and Dick Klarenbeek, Barney and Loie Buyert, Arthur Buyert, Hermina and Herbert Vander Stoep, and Gert’s infant twin sister, Dena.
