Jacoba Rens, 92, of Hull, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Royale Meadows Care Center, Sioux Center, Iowa.
Funeral service was Tuesday, April 6, at First Christian Reformed Church, Hull, with interment in Hope Cemetery, Hull.
Jacoba Caroline Koel was born June 21, 1928, in Perkins, Iowa, daughter of Herbert and Hattie (Kuhl) Koel. She grew up in Perkins and attended country school near Maurice, Iowa, through eighth grade.
On April 1, 1949, she married Albertus “Albert” John Rens. They made their home near Hull. She worked for many years as a cook at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. In 2017, they retired and in May 2020, they became residents of Aspen Heights Assisted Living facility in Hull. Her husband passed away Jan. 23, 2021.
Survivors include her seven children, LaVonne (Larry) Sietstra of Boyden, Iowa, Gwen (Hal) Congdon of Littleton, Colorado, Harlan (Sandy) Rens of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Gerald (Kate) Rens of Rock Valley, Iowa, Leon (Charlotte) Rens of Hull, Eleanor (Rick) Kiers of Hull and Greg (Jessica) Rens, of Hull; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anne (Cornie) Jansen of Hull; a brother, Derrick (Sally) Koel of Sioux Center, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Lorna Koel, of Madison, South Dakota, and Evelyn “Evie” Rens of Hills, Minnesota; a brother-in-law, Delmar (Mae) Rens of Sun Valley, California, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Jennie Koel; an infant brother; two brothers, C. Delphus Koel and Donald (Marjorie) Koel; four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
