Gordon C. Shaffer, 98, of George, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at Good Samaritan Society in George.
Funeral service was Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Jurrens Funeral Home, George, with interment in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, George.
Gordon Chester Shaffer was born Sept. 4, 1923, near Boyden, Iowa, to Chester and Marie (Fiihr) Shaffer. He attended country school and later graduated from Boyden High School. He joined the Navy and, after a brief enlistment, he was discharged.
On Jan. 4, 1946, he married Ida Geerdes. They farmed and raised livestock near Boyden before moving to a farm near George. He played organ for the Lutheran church in George and with the Georgie Boomgaarden dance band.
Survivors include five children, Douglas (Janet) of George, Dwight (Gladys) of George, Deanna Pederson of George, Danny of Sheldon, Iowa, and Denise Shaffer of Rushmore, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandson, brother, Leroy, and sisters, Vergamae and Rose.
