Albert John Rens, 92, of Hull, Iowa, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, at Sioux Center Health Hospital in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Private family funeral was Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with interment in Hope Cemetery, Hul.
Albertus “Albert” John Rens was born Aug. 25, 1928, near Perkins Corner, Iowa, son of John and Mina (Van Maanen) Rens. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Hull Christian Grade School. He began working on the farm at age 14.
On April 1, 1949, he married Jacoba Koel. They continued to farm and raise cattle until 2017. The couple moved in May 2020 to Aspen Heights Assisted Living in Hull.
Survivors include his wife; of 71 years, Jacoba Rens; seven children, LaVonne (Larry) Sietstra of Boyden, Iowa, Gwen (Hal) Congdon of Littleton, Colorado, Gerald (Kate) Rens of Rock Valley, Iowa, Leon (Charlotte) Rens of Hull, Eleanor (Rick) Kiers of Hull and Greg (Jessica) Rens of Hull; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Evelyn “Evie” Rens of Hills, Minnesota; brother, Delmar (Mae) Rens of Sun Valley, California; sister-in-law, Lorna Koel of Madison, South Dakota; brothers-in-law, Cornie (Anne) Jansen of Hull, and Derrick (Sally) Koel of Sioux Center, Iowa, and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Angeline Sybesma Bekuis, Mina Burggraaf, Albertha “Berdie” De Groot Bolks and Janet Kroese; two brothers, Robert Rens and Marvin Rens, and brothers-in-law, Delphus Koel and Donald (Majorie) Koel.
