Leona Schreur, 86, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral service was Monday, Aug. 9, at Alton Reformed Church, Alton, Iowa, with interment in Nassau Township Cemetery, Alton.
Leona Mae Riphagen was born March 16, 1935, in Hull, Iowa, daughter of William and Margaret (Hoksbergen) Riphagen. She grew up near Hull and attended Perkins School and Hull Public School. Following graduation from high school, she attended Northwestern Junior College in Orange City, Iowa, where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught school in Little Rock, Iowa, a few years.
On June 14, 1955, she married Robert Schreur. They made their home in Alton. She later started working at Alton Public Library, where she coordinated the children’s programs, and later became head librarian and served on the board of directors. Her husband passed away July 2, 1997.
Survivors include five daughters, Bonnie (Ron) Hawks of Waverly, Illinois, Barb Schreur of Washington, Iowa, Rhonda (Bill) Zahren of West Des Moines, Iowa, Mindy (Patrick) Sullivan of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, and Jodi Belcher of Schaller, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Milly Mulder of Orange City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Joyce (Harold) Van Wettering of Hospers, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Arend (Bev) Schreur of Sioux City, Iowa, and Raymond (Bev) Schreur, of Alton; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Carl Mulder, and four sisters-in-law, Geraldine Schreur, Gertrude Gustad, Dorothy Lubben and Loretta Carney.
