HAWARDEN-Trinity Christian found itself in a pitchers’ duel Monday, June 18, in Hawarden with West Sioux, but the Tigers fell 1-0 in a War Eagle Conference baseball game due to a passed ball that allowed the game-winning run to score.
Andrew De Boer was on the mound for Trinity Christian. He pitched six innings, allowed five hits, one unearned run, one walk and had four strikeouts.
“It was a classic pitchers’ duel between Andrew and Jake Lynott (West Sioux). It was fun to be a part of and fun to see. He kept their batters off-balance. We played well defensively and Andrew kept us in it until the end, but we just couldn’t come up with a hit,” said Tigers’ coach Mike De Jager.
The Trinity Christian offense was held hitless in the game. The only base runners for the Tigers were Ethan Van Bemmel and De Boer who each drew a walk. They had an opportunity in the seventh inning to tie the game with a runner at second base, but a soft lineout and a strikeout ended the game.
“I felt like our guys battled. I was pleased they didn’t roll over. We didn’t have a hit and we struck out 10 times, but it seemed like we made a little progress with each at-bat,” coach De Jager said.
