Harmsen to coach Dordt women’s basketball

SIOUX CENTER-The Dordt College women’s basketball program announced Thursday that Bill Harmsen has been named the new head coach of the program.

The former girls’ basketball coach and current boys’ basketball coach at Western Christian High School has had an impressive coaching career for the Wolfpack. He guided the girls’ program for five seasons and led them to three Class 2A state titles and a Class 2A runner-up state finish in 2015-2016, before leading the Western Christian boys’ basketball team to the 2016-2017 Class 2A state title and a 24-2 overall mark. Harsmen also has been serving as the school’s athletic director following the retirement of Jim Eekhoff in 2016.

Harmsen still plans to coach the boys’ basketball program, girls’ golf program and be athletic director through the 2017-2018 school year. During that time, Kyle Lindbergh, who signed on as an assistant basketball coach under Harmsen, will be the interim coach at Dordt College. Due to his commitments to Western Christian for next season, Harmsen was not allowed to comment for this story.
