Gesink and Jansma claim INA All-state honors

After claiming back-to-back and a record-breaking ninth state title in the boys’ basketball program, Western Christian’s Ben Gesink and Jesse Jansma were named to the Iowa Newspaper Association’s All-State team as announced by the association this past week.

Both players were named to the Class 2A first team. Gesink was picked as a back-court player after the Wolfpack point guard led the team in scoring with an average 15.2 points per game, shot a team-high 55.2 percent from the field, led the team in assists with 102 passes that led to scores and had a team-high in steals with 57. Gesink also led the team in rebounds, nabbing a total 159 boards.

Jansma was named as a first utility player for the Class 2A first team. As a Western Christian player, Jansma played small forward and finished the year second in scoring for the Wolfpack with an average 14.7 points per contest. Jansma shot 46.5 percent from the field, second-best on the team, and was 29-of-91 for 32 percent from the 3-point line. Jansma also cracked the century mark in rebounds, grabbing 116 total boards.
